Who funds the Energy Assistance Program?
Each year the State of Idaho, through the Department of Health and Welfare (DHW), applies for and receives a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. HHW uses this grant to administer the low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), and Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP).

What does the Energy Assistance Program do?
The Energy Assistance Program activities include cash assistance with home heating costs, an emergency assistance to participant whose helath may be threatened due to lack of heat in their home. Assistance with Clothing, blankets, temporary shelter, and minor home and heating equipment repair is provided in a Governor declared state of emergency.

Who qualifies for Energy Assistance?
For the 2007 – 2008 program year, eligible individuals and families are those whose household income falls within the following guidelines (150% of Poverty):

Applicants living in institutions such as nursing homes, shelters homes, commercial boarding or group housing, alcohol or drug treatment institutions, hospitals, or rehabilitations centers are NOT eligible for energy assistance.
